Performing Arts Rome University

Performing Arts Roma University is a centre for professional acting skills. At the end of a two year course of studies one is entitled to a final diploma which has the recognition of the Lazio region. This school was founded in 1997 by Franco Venturini, Federica de Vita and Tino Berlino and it holds its sessions in the "TeatroD'Oggi", in Rome (Colosseum area).
The aim of this course of studies is to train professional actors, in theatre and cinema skills, and to help them to master the abilities connected with voice projection, body and expressive capacities. This will allow them to convey all the nuances while playing a role, be it on a set or on a stage.
A vast number of techniques are taught: from mime to "commedia dell'arte", from classical theatre to street theatre and cabaret.

The overall training is further enriched by the production of short films and stage and set performances.

The diploma is acknowledged by the Lazio Region and is subjet to the passing of an exam

-Pass a specific aptitude test

The drama course of studies is divided in two years: during the first preparatory year the student is introduced to theatre techniques which will be examined more closely in the second year.
The aim is both a theoretical and practical training that enables the student to follow many paths: theatrical improvisation, physical and sensorial training, scene production, text approach, character studies, play staging, and so on.

Special attention is given to the voice and diction of the actor who is encouraged to acquire this competence also through the use of a manual which is given to each student. Diction will be constantly practiced. Physical training will enchance, on the other hand, the body expression of the actor and his command of the stage.

The Academy believes in enchanting personal skills and talent, while teaching how to integrate and express one-self in a group. Our first approach is theatrical improvisation followed by the study of the above mentioned techniques.
Each year will end with a final performance which will include all the work done. Finally, on graduating, each student will prepare a short monologue and will be examined by the teachers of the Academy.

This course is aimed at those who wish to acquire an artistic training (actors, dubbers, singers, speakers) and also at those who use their voice for professional needs (journalists, lawyers, tradesmen, teachers, and so on). During this training the student acquires the skills needed to give more power and expression to his words, enriching his voice in nuances, tone, volume, rhythm and colour. The subjects are: breathing; production and pronunciation of vowels and consonants; stress rules; articulation and intonation exercises; pauses; punctuation; rhythm, volume and tone; logical and expressive reading exercises.

This two module course is divided as follows: Module 1: comic theatre basics. Module 2: development and preparation of a comic text. The course will find its natural conclusion in an on-stage performance (about 10 soirées) to enact what one has been learning. The aim of this is to render the student independent.

The course is aimed at mastering the body's motory skills and its expressive use of mime skills. The programme includes the following: relaxation and warm-up exercises; miming techniques based on the Decroux method. The aim is to fuse the mime artist (with his precise and elaborate movements) and the clown (with its different masks). Special attention will be given to the great artists of comic performance: Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, and Buster Keaton.
